Watercolor and ink on Arches Paper

This painting was inspired by photos that I took during a vacation in Corsica. These trees look as if they are in camouflage and they always fascinated me.

Dream or Nightmare?
"Dream or Nightmare?"

140 lb. Arches cold-pressed watercolor paper

This was painted using the techniques of Gary Libscomb from his book, "Watercolor: Let it Flow." After the initial washes, I used negative painting techniques and some calligraphic line to finish.

Arches 140 lb cold pressed

while Plein Aire painting at the golf club I was attracted by this maple and made the small sketch. A worker that was mowing explained why it was there. The Greens Keeper, Bill Smart, had discovered it as a small sapling and gave strict orders that it was not to be destroyed. Bill has died and the tree lives on as a memorial to a favorite employee and boss.

I did this a few years ago, when this tree was still standing. It kept leaning more and more, so I caught it one sunset. Martha

Based loosely upon a painting viewed online (perhaps someone on Aquanet) and my own imagination of the woods in Vermont. Masking fluid used for the larger trees & Linda Kemp's negative painting technique for the background trees. Painted probably about 5 yrs ago.

Can you tell I'm in the midst of painting images for Christmas cards? Each year I paint close to 3 dozen different card ideas for my Christmas Card classes. For this one, I was teaching methods for using masking fluid so I did use masking fluid for the snow on the branches of the fir tree. Thanks for looking...Susie

This painting was done one morning in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park near my home. My sister works for a dentist who has a wall reserved for one of my paintings. Every six months I bring in a new work to exhibit. This painting hung there this summer.
